About me

Bianchi Méndez is a Full Professor at the Material Physics Department since 2007, after being Associate Professor (1997-2007). Currently, BM is the Head of the UCM research Group of Physics of Electronic Nanomaterials Group (FINE) and the Director of Department of Materials Physics. Her field of interest has been the study of optical and electronic properties of semiconductors, being, recently, the oxide nanomaterials the main subject of study. BM leads, joined with Ana Cremades, national research projects on Functional nanomaterials based on oxides, paying special attention to their applications in energy generation and storage. In addition, she is recently very active within a research line focused on ultra wide bandgap oxides and layered oxides.

Up to date, BM has co-supervised 9 PhD theses (2 of them in progress), has coauthored more than 130 articles in JCR journals (including 2 Nano Lett, 1 Small, 1 J. Mat.Chem. C, 2 Acta Materialia in the last 5 years). BM has been granted with 6 research projects as principal investigator, with an overall budget above 1M€. BM has participated actively in conferences and workshops, with about 25 invited talks, and have been part of the organizing committee in SPIE and E-MRS Conferences. BM has been Visitor Academic at the Warwick University (2014-2015), and Visiting professorship at the University of Bologna (Nov-Dec-2019).

BM has been Coordinator of the Degree of Materials Engineering (2011-2014) and Coordinator of the Master of Nanophysics and Advanced Materials (2016-2018). BM is currently the Head of the Department of Materials Physics at the UCM since 2018.
